Day 1

We left Bakersfield around 9 and headed west and then north. I loved seeing the farms around Bakersfield. It was much greener than I expected. We headed to the Happy Hallow Park and Zoo in San Jose (where we have reciprocity) for a fun few hours. Kiley picked up some lunch at Taco Bell (don't be jealous) on our way in to the park. This zoo is unique in that it has some fun rides (think fair type rides) as well as a small zoo. It was a great size for our kids and they enjoyed both the animals and rides. I don't know if it had many more animals than the Las Vegas Zoo but it is a super cute facility!

Favorite animals: the parrot question and answer show and the jaguar peeing and jumping up on rocks.

We left right about 5 and headed for a quick meal at Little Caesars (bread sticks included!). Benjamin loves Little Caesars pizza- just like Andrew. We ate as we drove a little over an hour to our hotel. We got to experience some San Francisco grid-lock as we got close to the city and are glad to not drive in that every day! After we checked into our motel (Motel Capri) we headed to our friend's house (hi Laura, Brandon, and Landon!!) for a short little visit. It was our first experience looking for parking and Kiley ended up in the church parking lot :) Going to our friends was so fun- they have a code that lets them in their door and an old little elevator. So fun to see where they live! City life is so different than suburban life!!
